Dr Aujaé Dixon, People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for North Central Clarendon, is expressing alarm at what he describes as an absence of working police service vehicles at the police stations in the constituency. 

Dixon explained that the matter became apparent to him when on two occasions he was contacted by residents in Rock River who needed emergency assistance from the police but officers were unable to respond due to the lack of service units.

Dixon said that in one instance a resident sustained head injuries resulting from an assault and was only partially conscious but was unable to get help due to lack of a service vehicle. Residents revealed that this has been an issue for at least 6-8 weeks. 

“On receiving information about the situation in Rock River, I went on a fact-finding mission and found out that it was not only the Rock River station that didn’t have a service vehicle but that was also the case for Mocho Police Station which hasn’t had a unit for over 6 weeks and the Chapelton Police Station which has to be serviced by units from May Pen,” Dixon further explained. 

“The absence of units compromises the safety of residents who may be in need of emergency responses and undermines the effectiveness of law enforcement personnel in the constituency,” said Dixon. “For a government that is touting the massive investment in National Security ad nauseam, I am appalled that so many police stations are still without service vehicles or with vehicles that are enduring long downtimes,” he added. 

Dixon is calling on the relevant authorities to immediately respond by securing dedicated service vehicles to tackle this crisis in North Central Clarendon and ensure that security personnel can effectively carry out their law enforcement duties across the constituency.
