The holiday season is a time for giving, gratitude, and recognising the unsung heroes who quietly make a difference in the lives of others.
RadioShack Jamaica, in partnership with social media influencer Jermaine ‘Scottycuss’ Watson, brought unexpected Christmas joy to a loyal fan, Rackesha Elvey, who inspired him during a challenging year.
This was made possible through his ‘12 Grands of Christmas’ initiative, which is aimed at spreading joy and appreciation during the festive season.
After learning about Rackesha’s unwavering encouragement and the profound impact she had on Scottycuss, RadioShack decided to join forces with the beloved content creator to show gratitude in a meaningful way.
“There was a period in the year where content wasn’t going well,” explained Scottycuss, reflecting on his creative journey. “TikTok and Instagram changed their algorithm, so views were down, and I was feeling out of it. One day, I went to Express Fitness and Rackesha recognized me. She said, ‘You’re Scottycuss!’ and we started talking. She told me she loved my videos and how she discovered so many places because of them.”
Scottycuss shared how Rackesha’s encouragement lifted his spirits during this tough period: “I was explaining that things weren’t going as well as I wanted, and she gave me consistent encouragement, not just that day but throughout the year. It’s specifically because of Rackesha why I kept going at that time.”
Understanding the deep connection between Scottycuss and Rackesha, RadioShack was inspired to take action. “We were moved by Scottycuss’ story about Rackesha and her genuine impact,” Abbion Robinson, Marketing Specialist, RadioShack said. “It’s not every day you come across someone who quietly lifts others in such a profound way. At RadioShack, we believe in celebrating individuals who inspire positivity and community spirit, and Rackesha embodies this perfectly.”
As a result, RadioShack surprised Rackesha with special gifts, honouring her for being a source of light and motivation, not just to Scottycuss, but indirectly to the thousands of people inspired by his work.
Scottycus expressed his gratitude for RadioShack’s involvement: “I knew the ‘12 Grands of Christmas’ was coming up, and I had to include Rackesha. It’s amazing that RadioShack resonated with her story and joined in to gift this wonderful person who has been such an inspiration to me throughout the year.”
ScottyCuss sneakingly asked Rackesha to assist him in picking out gifts for children aged three, 16 and 11, which subsequently were the ages of her very own children. With no clue as to what was about to happen, she did just that. They then took to the streets of Half Way Tree to gift random persons on the street (something he does annually for his 12 Grands of Christmas initiative), only for her to be pleasantly surprised that the gifts she selected turned out to be for her very own children.
Rackesha was overjoyed when it was announced that the gifts were for her children.
“I haven’t gotten any surprises like this for a while, and I was just about to walk out Half Way Tree to give out these [gifts], and when I realized they were mine, mi not even a memba seh di sun hot. I really really really appreciate it,” an overjoyed Elvey said in an interview immediately after she was surprised.
When asked what she was planning to give her children for Christmas, she said, “I wasn’t really thinking of nothing”, but now she can give them what she chose at RadioShack.
RadioShack’s gesture serves as a reminder that small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect, inspiring countless others. Rackesha’s support not only reignited Scottycuss’ passion, but also ensured that his content continued to bring joy and discovery to his audience.
This celebration highlights the power of encouragement and the spirit of giving, values RadioShack is proud to champion this holiday season.
