

Edwin Allen girls and St Jago boys on Wednesday retained their titles with easy wins in the two-day Central Athletics Championships at the GC Foster College.
Edwin Allen—the all-island champions—romped to victory amassing 389 points from the 45 finals and was 79 points ahead of second place Holmwood Technical on 310. Hydel High finished third with 279 points and Vere Technical was fourth with 204. St Jago completed the top five with 152.5 points.
In the boys’ section, St Jago rattled up 327 points for victory and were well clear of Edwin Allen in second on 267. Clarendon College secured third spot with 132 points, Manchester High was fourth on 110 and Holmwood Technical completed the top five with 109 points.

Two regional champions have been decided leading up to the big ISSA Boys and Girls Athletics Championship at the end of March.
Last week, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) captured both boys’ and girls’ Western Championships now Edwin Allen and St Jago are Central champions.
The second and final day started in the girls’ 3000m open and Ashara Frater of Vere won in an impressive record of 10:15.24, well below the 2019 mark of 10:21.34 held by Aneisha Lawrence of Bellefield High.

The boys’ 5000m record was also smashed by Kenya’s Ryan Achau of St Jago. He destroyed the field, clocking 15:15.93 well below the 2019 record of 15:45.50 by Edwin Allen’s AJ Sweeney.
Edwin Allen Boys romped to an auspicious 40.95 to win the Class One 4×100 relay while their Class Two boys also established a new record clocking 42.23.
St Jago boys swept the sprint hurdles winning in all classes courtesy of Juan-Tae Halliman who won Class 3 in 13.29; Nikaro Johnson in Class 2 with 14.70; and Brendon Harris in Class 1 in 14.15 seconds.

Hydel HIgh’s Jody-Ann Daley established a new record in the girls’ Class One 100m hurdles clocking 13.42 lowering the previous record of 13.66 held by 400m hurdles Olympian Adrennette Knight since 2016.
Edwin Allen captured two sprint hurdles as Amoy Howell won the Class Four 70m hurdles in 10.49 seconds and Tashana Godfrey in the Class Three 80m hurdles in a record 11.16. Malayia Duncan of St Jago took the Class Two 100m hurdles in 13.16.
Edwin Allen continued their dominance in the girls’ section capturing three of the four 4×100 relays. They won Class Two in 45.92; Class Three in 46.75; and Class Four in 48.10.
In the Boys 4×100 relays, Edwin Alen took two of the three races winning the Class One and Two in records 40.95 and 42.23 respectively. St Jago captured the Class Three in 45.94.
Edwin Allen Girls won the sprint medley in 4:07.62 minutes while Alphansus Davis took the boys’ section in 3:39.86. Holmwood Technical girls won the 4×400 relay in 3:42.54 while Edwin Allen brought the curtain down with an impressive 3:12.15, clocking in the boys’ 4×400.
