Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake.

Commissioner of Police, Dr Kevin Blake, has praised members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for their exceptional work in reducing serious crime across the island, as the Force marks a record-breaking decline in murders and major crimes.

In his weekly address to the organisation in the Force Orders, Dr Blake revealed that the first
quarter of 2025 has seen the lowest number of murders in more than two decades, alongside the
most significant drop in major crimes since 2001.

“The first quarter of 2025 ended on Monday with the lowest number of murders recorded in more
than 25 years. It was also the lowest number of major crimes recorded in a quarter since 2001,”
he said.

The commissioner described the achievement as a reflection of the sustained efforts being made
across every level of the organisation, highlighting that this marks the sixth consecutive quarter in
which murders have declined.

“The quarter represented the 6th consecutive quarter of reduction in murders. You are doing an
awesome job, and Jamaica is appreciative,” he added.

The news comes amid continued investment in intelligence-led policing, technological upgrades,
and strategic partnerships—key elements of the JCF’s national crime reduction strategy. Dr Blake
reaffirmed the High Command’s commitment to building a professional, modern police force that
delivers results and earns the trust of the Jamaican people.
