The People’s National Party (PNP) has extended condolences on the passing of Pope Francis.

In a statement, the party said that Pope Francis’ life was a testament to spiritual devotion, moral clarity, and a tireless, progressive commitment to unity and human dignity, while outlining that the Catholic Church holds a respected place in Jamaica’s cultural and spiritual life.

For generations, Jamaican Catholics have contributed significantly to nation-building through education, health care, community service, and the arts, guided by the values and teachings of the Holy See, the statement continued.

Pope Francis attends the weekly general audience in Saint Peter’s square at the Vatican. The Argentine pontiff, who led the Catholic Church since 2013, passed away on Monday, leaving a profound impact on millions around the world.

“To the Catholic community across Jamaica, I offer heartfelt sympathies during this time of reflection and mourning. May you find comfort in the Pope’s enduring legacy of compassion, humility, and faith,” said the Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his example continue to inspire all who strive for a more just and loving world.

Funeral service for Pope Francis, who passed Monday, is scheduled for this Saturday.
