Jamaica’s dream of reaching a second World Cup looks more realistic after being paired on Thursday with fellow Caribbean teams Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda and Curacao in what is deemed an easy Group B of the CONCACAF Qualifiers.
It was a draw that left Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Michael Ricketts confident yet cautious.
“This group is, I would think, manageable. I know there won’t be an easy game, but I don’t think you could have gotten it any better,” he told Our Today.
With the region’s top-ranked Mexico, Canada and the United States of America (USA) all qualified as joint hosts, the three group winners will advance to the FIFA World Cup, and the two best second-placed teams will enter into a Confederation playoff.

The other draws are:
- Group A: Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala and Suriname
- Group C: Costa Rica, Honduras, Haiti and Nicaragua.
Jamaica is the sixth-ranked CONCACAF team, sitting at 63 in the world. Curacao is sitting at 10th in the region and 90th in the world. Trinidad and Tobago are 100th in the world, while Bermuda are 168th.
If the Reggae Boyz are not complacent, they should be mixing it up at the World Cup.
“So, it’s just for us now to play our cards right, as they would say. I mean execute on the field or off the field,” said Ricketts. “So, I’m pretty happy and, like I said, I’m just hopeful that our good fortune with the draw will be translated on the field”.
