Christopher Jarrett, president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), says the agency is carefully reviewing the newly tabled Jamaica Tourist Board Bill and welcomes the opportunity for further engagement with the Government before the legislation is finalised.

Jarrett noted that the JHTA’s approach to the bill is guided by the principle that all tourism stakeholders — both public and private — should be fully informed and actively involved in shaping the most effective and relevant regulatory framework for Jamaica’s dynamic tourism industry.

“We believe that equity and fairness are crucial to the success of Jamaica’s tourism sector,” Jarrett stated. “A level playing field, where all operators are allowed a fair and equitable regulatory landscape with full opportunities and resources at their disposal, is essential for promoting healthy competition and innovation.”

He acknowledged reports that the bill has been temporarily suspended, which provides a meaningful window for continued stakeholder consultation.

“We implore all stakeholders to use this opportunity to agree on a new Jamaica Tourist Board Act that prioritises reduced barriers to entry, transparency, accountability, and a level playing field for all. This will help create an environment where all tourism operators — regardless of size or type — can thrive and contribute to the growth and development of our industry.”
