Three dead, two injured from Hanover crash

The Hanover Traffic Department of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting that investigations are underway concerning a crash that claimed the lives of three individuals in the parish on Tuesday.

The deceased are 65-year-old Calbert Hart, 47-year-old Owen Jackson, and 37-year-old Ricardo Baylis. All three men are from Hanover addresses, with Hart residing in Cousin’s Cove, Jackson at Cauldwell, and Baylis from Green Island.

The Green Island police are reporting that at 5:50 pm Tuesday, a brown Toyota Hilux was moving west on the Norman Manley Boulevard towards Negril when the driver lost control of the vehicle, swerved into the opposite lane, and slammed into Jackson’s green Toyota Corolla.

According to the JCF, both Hart and Jackson died on the scene. Both the Hilux driver and another passenger in Jackson’s Corolla are still hospitalised.

In 2024, Jamaica recorded a new low of 364 road fatalities, a 14 per cent reduction compared to the 425 traffic-related deaths in 2023.. As of June 16th this year, 178 individuals died on the country’s streets, the result of 161 accidents.
