Sharon Donaldson-Levine is the new president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ).
The local professional accountancy body announced the election of Donaldson-Levine following a Special Council Meeting held after its 60th annual general meeting.
Donaldson-Levine, the group managing director for General Accident Insurance Company (Genac), brings a wealth of professional experience and institutional knowledge to the role. At present, she has oversight for Genac’s Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and Barbados operations.
She previously served as the financial controller, general manager, and company secretary for General Accident Jamaica for several years, demonstrating her strong foundation in corporate governance and strategic leadership. She is also a director of several companies, including Musson (Jamaica) Ltd, Eppley Limited, and 138 Student Living Limited, to name a few.
Donaldson-Levine stated, commenting on her elections, described it as “an honour” to be chosen to serve as president of the ICAJ.
“I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by my colleagues and I am committed to building on the solid foundation laid by those before me,” she stated.
She also emphasized the need for continued innovation and resilience.
“Now more than ever, the profession must remain agile. We are facing rapid changes in global reporting standards, rising stakeholder expectations, and increased demand for ethical leadership. I want to ensure our members are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and support to meet those challenges while advancing Jamaica’s position on the global stage,” she added.
Donaldson-Levine is a fellow of the ICAJ, along with other professional affiliations including being a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), an attorney-at-law, and a member of the Insurance Institute of Jamaica and the Jamaican Bar Association. She is also the immediate past president of the Insurance Association of Jamaica (IAJ).
Since joining the ICAJ Council in 2017, Donaldson-Levine has served as treasurer, vice-president, and chair of both the Professional Accountants in Business and the Student Affairs committees. She is widely respected for her integrity, strategic insight, and dedication to mentoring and education within the profession. Outside of the ICAJ, she offers her services to the Norman Manley Law School and Richmond Academy as a course director.
Looking ahead to her term, she shared: “As president, I hope to champion greater collaboration between the public and private sectors, enhance continuing education for our members, and ensure that the ICAJ continues to be a beacon of integrity and excellence within the profession and the wider society.”
Donaldson-Levine succeeds Eric Scott, who served with distinction as president from 2023 to 2025.
The ICAJ Council and members conveyed its “profound gratitude to Mr. Scott for his exemplary leadership, particularly during the first half of the Institute’s milestone 60th anniversary year”.
“His tenure was marked by strategic engagement with local and international partners, a strong emphasis on digital transformation, and a renewed focus on building the next generation of accounting professionals,” the institute outlined.
In his final address at the AGM, the outgoing president his full confidence in the ICAJ’s new leadership.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve in this role over the past two years. While my presidency concludes, my commitment to the Institute remains as strong as ever. I’m proud to continue serving on the ICAJ Council and stand fully behind the incoming President and Council as they carry the torch forward. I am confident that the Institute is in capable hands.”
Supporting Donaldson-Levine in her new role are: Gail Moore as vice-president; Elaine Robinson, who was reappointed as secretary; and newly elected council member Kenneth Adams, appointed as treasurer.
