Members of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) say that should they win Wednesday’s general election, the victory will be dedicated to the late Don Wehby, former government Senator and Group Chief Executive Officer of GraceKennedy Limited.
While speaking at the JLP’s Portland Parish Meeting on Saturday, August 30, which was held at Portland’s Square, Daryl Vaz, who is seeking re-election as Member of Parliament for Portland Western, first noted the recognition that would be given come Wednesday, should the JLP win the general election.
Vaz closed his address for the evening by calling on Wehby’s daughter, Abigail Wehby, to him. He said that Wehby was “a Labour Party man to the bone”.
“In this election, both in East and West Portland and nationally, when we beat them on September 3, it’s going to be dedicated in the life and honour and memory of Don Wehby, a patriot who served Jamaica well!” Vaz shouted.
Jamaica sadly lost Wehby on July 26, 2025, after a long battle with illness.

In 2007, Wehby first decided to serve the country as a minister of government, out of wanting a better Jamaica for his three children.
Wehby’s sterling contribution to Jamaica’s public and private sectors also earned him the Order of Distinction (Commander Class) in 2017.
On April 9, this year, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) announced Wehby as the 31st inductee into its prestigious Hall of Fame. This honour celebrated his remarkable contributions to Jamaica’s private sector and to nation-building.
As a dynamic leader, Wehby is known to be decisive, strategic and intentional, while being unassuming and unpretentious. Described by his peers as a man of unwavering integrity, with electric energy and a keen sense of humour, he was also a devoted family man, with a deep commitment to the development of Jamaica’s youth.
