Leon Davis, Senior Director & Site General Manager at Optimum Jamaica, presents a quarter-million-dollar sponsorship cheque to the U21 National Netball team to support their journey to the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup.

Optimum Jamaica has contributed J$250,000 to the Netball Foundation of Jamaica to support the National Under-21 Netball team as they prepare for the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup, scheduled for September 19–28 in Gibraltar.

The donation comes at a crucial time as the young Sunshine Girls have been actively seeking sponsorship to secure their participation on the world stage. Optimum Jamaica, guided by its principles of empowerment, community, and innovation, stepped in to help make the team’s ambitions a reality.

Team captain Roxonna McLean welcomed the support, noting its significance. “We are extremely grateful to have Optimum come on board with this sponsorship. We have been seeking support for a long time, and their contribution means so much to us as we prepare for the World Youth Cup,” she said.

Leon Davis, Senior Director and Site General Manager at Optimum Jamaica, described the partnership as an investment in the future of Jamaica’s youth. “We are proud to sponsor the Jamaica U21 Team. At Optimum, corporate social responsibility is not just a buzzword; it’s a commitment we live by. Supporting local teams, especially our young athletes, is an investment in our future. We truly believe that by empowering the next generation, we will see the fruits of our labour in championships won, communities uplifted, and a stronger Jamaica.”

President of the Netball Foundation of Jamaica, Karen Baugh, also expressed appreciation, highlighting the timeliness of the donation. “Netball Jamaica is truly grateful and appreciative of the support of Optimum Jamaica. This first-time partnership and donation of J$250,000 came at just the right time and enabled us to complete our funding of the airfares for the team. The girls were motivated by the addition of the reserve players to the touring party. They are ready to represent Jamaica well and will wear the black, green and gold with pride. Thank you, Optimum!”

The sponsorship underscores Optimum Jamaica’s commitment to giving back and fostering opportunities for youth development both on and off the court. With the team’s funding gap now closed, the Sunshine Girls are focused on their preparations for the global tournament, carrying with them the hopes of the nation.
