The Jamaica Bankers Association (JBA) says that its member banks and building societies will remain closed “until conditions are confirmed safe to reopen”.
In the meantime, the JBA is encouraging clients of member institutions to continue using online and mobile banking channels where possible. At present, some automated banking machines (ABMs) have been temporarily decommissioned due to safety concerns.
“Call-centre and customer-support availability may be limited and response times extended while weather conditions persist; we appreciate your patience,” the association stated in a release.

“Member institutions are monitoring conditions continuously and will restore branch and all ABM services as soon as it is safe to do so,” it added.
The JBA said that it will continue to provide further updates as conditions evolve via the media and our member institutions’ channels. At the same time, it urges customers to follow guidance from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) and the Jamaica Met Service.
“The Jamaica Bankers Association (JBA), on behalf of our member banks and building societies, extends our care and concern to every resident as Hurricane Melissa affects Jamaica. Our greatest priority is the safety of our customers, team members, and the wider public,” the association stated.
“Our hearts are with everyone across Jamaica at this challenging time. Together, we will get through this and rebuild,” the release ended.
