Vassel Reynolds has taken over the head coaching position at Harbour View, replacing Byjeon Thomas, as the former champions search for answers to their poor run in the last few years.
Thomas was appointed in August after he resigned from his head coaching position at Chapelton Maroons immediately after it was acquired by Phoenix Academy.
Thomas had replaced veteran Sydney McFarlene, who himself had replaced former fitness coach Jason ‘Buju’ Henry, who was surprisingly appointed for the start of the 2024 season.
That experiment failed, and Henry was sacked in November, just two months into the Jamaica Premier League season.
Harbour View has struggled to replace Ludlow Bernard, who guided the team to the JPL title in 2022, a year after he led Kingston College to the Manning Cup crown in 2021.
Ironically, Reynolds led Kingston College to the Manning Cup and All-Island Olivier Shield titles in 2024.
He is following in the footsteps of Bernard, but will have a mammoth task in leading Harbour View to the 2025/26 title as they are struggling at the 12th spot on eight points from eight games.
The Stars of the East have won two times and lost 4 while scoring only eight goals while conceding 15 goals. Despite being early in the season, Reynold will have his hands full in getting Harbour View into a playoff spot reserved for the top six teams.
Reynolds, who is the assistant head coach to Jamaica’s Under-17 team, brings a wealth of experience to Harbour View, having coached at Montego Bay United, Sporting Central, Humble Lion and Reno.
He is one of the few coaches to have won both the daCosta Cup with Rusea’s High in 2017 and the Manning Cup with Kingston College in 2024. He also won the Walker Cup (2015) and the FLOW Super Cup (2016) at Wolmer’s Boys School.
