Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shook off an illness and still made it look easy, dropping 40 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder rolled to their 10th straight victory.
His burst of scoring resulted in a 113–105 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in NBA Cup play at Paycom Centre.
The 27-year-old just keeps delivering. He has now scored at least 20 points in 91 straight games, the third-longest stretch in league history. Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards did his best to keep his team afloat with 31 points and eight rebounds, but the Wolves have now slipped into a three-game skid.
Oklahoma City continues its start to the season, becoming only the fifth team ever to open at 18 wins and 1 loss. They’re also a perfect 3–0 in West Group A of the NBA Cup, the league’s in-season tournament whose games still count in the regular season standings.
Next up, the Thunder host the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, while the Timberwolves head home to face the Boston Celtics.
