The People’s Republic of China in support of Jamaica’s ongoing reconstruction efforts in affected areas across the island, has donated heavy-duty equipment to the Government of Jamaica.

Under-Secretary for the Bilateral, Regional and Hemispheric Affairs Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Ambassador Symone Betton Nayo, officially received the donation on behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, alongside Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management Logistics Manager, David Ellis and Senior Director for Preparedness and Emergency Operation, Sophia Mitchell.

The contribution by the Ambassador of China to Jamaica, His Excellency Wang Jinfeng made on behalf of the Chinese Government, coincides with Jamaica’s transition into the reconstruction phase of its response to Hurricane Melissa. The donation comprises three tractors, two compression garbage trucks, two wheel loaders, a backhoe loader, and a water truck.

These assets are intended to support reconstruction efforts in the western region of the island, which experienced significant devastation as a result of the hurricane. Ambassador Betton Nayo expressed sincere appreciation to the Chinese Ambassador for the Government of China’s continued and substantial support to Jamaica over the years, particularly in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. She also acknowledged the enduring bilateral relationship between the two countries, which spans more than five decades. This donation represents the fourth such contribution from China to the Government and people of Jamaica within the past three months.
