Espolòn Tequila commemorated the historical significance of Cinco de Mayo with an immersive cultural showcase at Terrace at 100 Bar and Restaurant, highlighting the shared legacies of resilience, identity and creative expression that unite Mexico and the Caribbean.

Cinco de Mayo marks the anniversary of the 1862 Battle of Puebla, when Mexican forces triumphed against overwhelming odds, a defining moment of national pride and resistance. Drawing on this legacy, the evening positioned Tequila not simply as a spirit but as a cultural artefact rooted in history and craftsmanship.

Ayawna Morgan, Category Manager for Beverages and Snacks at LASCO, joined the pre Cinco de Mayo festivities at The Terrace at 100 Bar & Restaurant on Thursday with Espolon Tequila.

“While we’re here with a brand that celebrates spirit, heritage and rebellion, of course Espolòn Tequila, tonight is not just about great cocktails; it’s about culture, storytelling and independence,” said Mark Telfer, Campari Group’s Channel and Customer Marketing Manager. “Cinco de Mayo commemorates the moment when Mexico stood its ground, when determination, pride and unity overcame the odds, and it’s a story very familiar to us here in Jamaica.”

Telfer underscored the parallels between the two nations, both shaped by histories of resistance and cultural innovation. “Here in Jamaica, we understand exactly what that means. We are a people of rhythm, resilience and resistance. From music to sport, from culture to craft, Jamaicans, like Mexicans, have consistently expressed identity, pride and freedom in powerful ways. Whether it’s tequila or rum, mariachi or reggae, what connects us is authenticity and soul.”

Social Media Influencer, Kelly ‘Kellandra’ Brown, worked on her mixology skills at the Espolon Tequila Cinco de Mayo Media Launch on Thursday.

The event guided guests through the historical and artistic evolution of Espolòn, from its origins to its contemporary global recognition. “This evening, you’ll take a journey through Espolòn, from its heritage and awards to its versatility at the bar,” Telfer added. “You’ll taste, you’ll create, and you’ll experience tequila not just as a drink, but as an expression of culture.”

Brandon Wallace, Brand Manager Espolon Tequila, provided insight into the brand’s foundation and development. “Espolòn was founded in 1998 by Master Tequilero Cirilo Oropeza, who brought over 50 years of expertise to the craft. His ambition was to create a tequila of exceptional quality that remained accessible,” Wallace explained. “A purpose-built distillery in Mexico was developed to meet precise standards, using 100% Blue Weber agave to produce a distinctive flavour profile.”

Following its acquisition by Campari Group in 2010, Espolòn entered a new chapter, modernising its visual identity while preserving its deep cultural roots. Each label serves as a narrative canvas, illustrating moments of Mexican history and everyday life. The Blanco expression reflects themes of independence and revolution, featuring the brand’s iconic rooster Ramón alongside the ‘skeleton man’ Guadalupe, symbolising defiance and freedom. The Reposado expression portrays the vitality of the Mexican marketplace, emphasising community, trade and tradition.

Espolòn’s production methods remain grounded in tradition while embracing innovation. Crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave and distilled using both pot and column stills, the tequila achieves a distinctive, citrus-forward character.

With more than 45 international awards to its name, Espolòn has established itself as a globally respected brand, recognised for both quality and cultural authenticity.

By bringing this celebration to Jamaica, Espolòn Tequila created a meaningful dialogue between two cultures, honouring history not as something distant, but as a living influence expressed through craft, flavour and shared identity.
