Yesterday (August 18) Raheem Sterling, in collaboration with Clarks, unveiled a new line of Jamaica-inspired shoes.
The Jamaica-born footballer has shared his love for the brand on several occasions and even credits the shoe as being the reason for his athletic prowess on the playground as a child.
The culturally inspired shoe is said to be a combination of the classic Wallabee Boot and the Desert Trek.
The shoes feature an embossed motif, ‘1692’, referring to the 1692 earthquake that destroyed Jamaica’s then capital Port Royal, and Sterling’s hometown.
With colours ranging from navy blue, clean white and ecru to grey, black and khaki, every detail of the shoe is in recognition of Jamaican Culture.
It even includes Jamaica’s national motto, ‘Out of Many- One People’ inscribed inside the shoe.
“In school, I wanted to keep up with the kids wearing fresh kicks so I was selling frozen slush after class to make money to buy my first pair of Wallabees,” Sterling shared.
“Fast forward and now to be the first Jamaican with my own Clarks collection is an honour. When I heard I could build this line I was buzzing, it’s a brand I’ve loved from a young age so to have this opportunity is really special.”
