Netflix has announced that its new Bridgerton spin-off will be entitled Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, featuring actress India Amarteifio, who will play the young queen.

According to a press released from Netflix, the new show will follow “Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power”.

It will also tell the story of “how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.”

In the original series Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte was played by Golda Rosheuvel, a Guyanese- British actress known for her work in the theatre.

The spin- off was first announced in May 2021.

In a statement at the time, Netflix’s Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria said that “many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton“.

The streaming company also released a clip with Adjoa Andoh, the actress who plays Bridgerton‘s Lady Danbury, speaking about the witty and sharp Queen Charlotte, characteristics she believes Amarteifio has fully grasped.

“India has absolutely grabbed all of that and made her own and run with it. When I look at India, I see Golda and see young Charlotte become older Charlotte and it’s a beautiful thing,” said Andoh.

The new series will also follow the life of young Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton who were close friends of the Queen.

Also featured are Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Corey Mylchreest as Young King George, Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley (with Hugh Sachs as adult Brimsley), Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor and Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury.
