The Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) has issued a directive to all broadcasters to immediately prevent the transmission of any recorded material on tv, radio, or cable that glorifies, promotes, or otherwise encourages illegal activities. The announcement was made earlier today (October 11).

This, the BCJ said, includes all songs that promote or glorify:

  • Scamming
  • Drug Abuse/illegal drugs including #molly.
  • Jungle justice
  • Illegal or harmful use of guns and other offensive weapons.
  • Use of expletives and other offensive lyrics/profanities.
  • All other illegal activities you can think of

The BCJ, in a release, said songs that promote and glorify illegal activity can give the wrong impression that criminality is an accepted feature of Jamaican culture and society.
