The Lupus Foundation is next Sunday (October 16) slated to host Laps for Lupus Awareness, a fundraising event during which key information such as fitness tips and health demonstations will be shared.

The three-hour event, which gets under way at 5:00 pm, will take place at Emancipation Park in New Kingston.

Fitness guru Kurt Dunn, of Body by Kurt, will be the laps master for the day, ensuring that participants get the most out of the event.

Games master Dalton ‘Potcova’ Spence will be in charge of games and giveaway prizes.

Registration fee starts at $1,000, but participants are encouraged to donate to the cause.

Dr Desiree Tulloch-Reid, president of the Lupus Foundation of Jamaica, recently called for increased awareness of the disease, which can lead to early detection and access to treatment.

She also shared with the media earlier this month that, throughout October, the public can look forward to key events hosted by the Foundation.

The events include a special edition of the Foundation’s monthly live question-and-answer virtual programme, ‘Ask the Expert Live – Youth Edition’, and a family-friendly virtual event.

There will also be a virtual lupus symposium on October 31 where medical professionals will be engaged.

Tulloch-Reid further encouraged Jamaicans who are living with the disease, as well as their families, to join support groups, such as the Lupus Foundation, to benefit from practical advice and tips to help them cope with the condition.

The main sponsors of the activities include the Jamaica National Group, Barita Investments Limited, and the National Health Fund.
