Every great store deserves great exposure. Here, at Our Today, we highlight Jamaican entrepreneurs making a positive mark in the small business space. We believe every good business – particularly local stores with excellent customer service, trendy products and a strong social media presence – deserves to be recognised for its quality service.

Quaint bags

Quaint by GSC is a small business that offers customers the chance to purchase handmade, vegan-leather bags that are inspired by African culture and nature. In addition to the bags section, they also offer sewing patterns, clothes, and free online sewing classes on their other page ‘sewquaint’.

Quaint by GSC was started in 2015 by Gabrielle Clarke.

Clarke mentioned that she was initially self-taught in sewing but, over time, received help and advice from other trained professionals.

Clarke recently launched her new collection in time for the Christmas holidays.

She says her plans for the future involve taking the steps to recalibrate her creative mind and work on rebranding to take her business to a higher level.

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Hard Rock Heals Foundation, the charitable arm of Hard Rock International, has raised US$400,000 (approximately J$62.8 million) to support housing, infrastructure repairs, and humanitarian assistance for Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The funds were generated through the “Stay Strong Jamaica” benefit concert held on January 2 at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood and are being distributed via Jamaica’s Promise, a non-profit organisation that channels support to local relief initiatives.
