Clarendon College beats Jamaica College 3-0

It’s last match of the season and the champions of the Manning Cup and Dacosta Cup come together to determine one last winner.

Clarendon College, having recently faced the loss of their assistant manager Neville ‘Manny’ Peart, who passed just a few weeks before the final, set out to make him proud. They came to Kingston to win and they did just that.

“We just came out here with the mindset to win the game- work hard on the ball and off the ball as well and I think we did that just fine,” said Clarendon College’s captain, Malachi Douglas, in a post match interview with This or That Sports TV.

Jamaica College entered the match with the expectation of victory, due to the team’s overall talent and proven ability. After all, they have not only gone undefeated for most of the season but created history with their achievements as a team. Despite the hopeful predictions, the odds were not in their favour.

“We started off very slow, and Clarendon College capitalised on that,” said JC’s Maquan Aldridge in his post match interview with This or That Sports TV.

The buildup for the first goal was superb as Christopher Hull (8) of CC, kicked to score but was blocked by JC’s goalkeeper. In the heat of JC trying to regain control and CC pushing for the lead in the game, Marques Reid (15) of CC saw the opportunity to score and took it swiftly. The fans of the traveling team erupted immediately with joviality.

The second goal was scored by Devonte Hodges (6) of CC, not even five minutes after the first goal had been scored.

To take the cake, and to further assert their dominance over the game, Clarendon College’s Keheim Dixon (13) also scored.

With the game nearing the end, and the score being 3-0, CC’s win was secured long before the final whistle, signifying the end of the match, had been blown.

With three goals scored, Clarendon College surely made their late assistant manager proud.

Taking home this championship, Clarendon College has not only broken JC’s undefeated streak- being the first team to beat them all season- but also won the Olivier Shield for the sixth time -1977,1978, 2018, 2019 and now 2022.

Both teams are going home with two championship cups under their belts this schoolboy football season, making their schools and fans proud.
