Motorists who do not have a T-Tag and wish to pass quicker through any Highway 2000 East-West toll, using the automated express lane, will soon have to pay a fee to acquire their T-Tags and Swipe cards.
Previously, the Swipe cards and T-Tags were free, but that will no longer be the reality, effective next Monday (January 2).
The news was announced to customers in an email from Highway 2000 and on its website where the entity said: “Since the inception of the T-Tag, we have endeavoured to provide the T-Tag Sticker and corresponding Swipe Card for free to all customers opening T-Tag accounts. We are no longer able to do this, however we have worked to keep all fees at the cost incurred to provide each media.”

T-Tags are stickers placed on the windscreen of a vehicle, allowing motorists to benefit from lower rates were applicable frequent user rewards, and periodic discounts.
In order to use the tag, motorists would have to put money on their Swipe cards that will be transferred to the tags. This allows them to avoid long lines where they will have to physically pay toll attendants.
Now, a fee of J$2,500 is required to have access to both products, inclusive of J$500 opening credit for new accounts.
If a T-Tag is lost or damaged, the replacement fee is J$1,500. To replace a Swipe card or receive an additional card, motorists will have to pay J$500.
However, these prices are not fixed. In the email it was noted that the prices could be subjected to change, and customers were urged to frequently check for updates on the Highway 2000 website.
