Sanya Wallace (left), Assistant General Manager at JN Money Services Limited, recently presented a cheque for $100,000 to Deandra Brown, Family Facilitator at SOS Children’s Village in Stony Hill, St Andrew. The global remittance brand donates cash and kind, to include school supplies, to the children’s home each year.

The JN Money Services Limited recently donated $100,000 to the SOS Children’s Village in Stony Hill, St Andrew to assist with the upkeep of the facility.

Deandra Brown, one of the home’s family facilitators who received the donation on the behalf of the home, praised JN Money Services for their continued support to the Children’s Village.

“I love JN Money for their annual donation. Getting donations is very important to us because we are wholly funded by government subsidies. While some care-related expenses are subsidised by the Child Protection and Family Services Agency, it is simply not enough,” she said.

She noted that JN Money Services donations have assisted in areas such as school fees, extra-curricular activities and food for the children.

She expressed that the facility can house up to 124 wards, however, it needs refurbishing because four facilities are currently out of use.

“The houses need complete refurbishing so we can’t take in those kids yet. Funding for the remodelling of the four defunct houses would be appreciated, whether it might be tiling, countertops or refrigerators. I know that we also need a sofa set for one of the houses that are currently in use,” she said.

Brown further noted that the village also requires assistance to enhance security at the property.

Among the equipment noted by Brown are motion sensor floodlights, solar light bulbs to decrease blind spots across the village grounds and a security camera system to assist with surveillance.

She said solar water heaters and rainwater harvesting systems are also needed, and consistent help to feed its many energetic and quickly developing young residents.

Sanya Wallace, assistant general manager at JN Money Services noted that the needs of the home have propelled the organisation to stay connected to the SOS, Children’s Village which they have been supporting for 10 years.

“JN Money is very big on giving back to the community and so we have been donating to the SOS Children’s Village for several years. Our children are the ones who will take over from us and, it doesn’t matter where they are from, therefore, we have to ensure that they live a normal and as comfortable a life as possible so that they can achieve their best potential,” she said.

She also urged other private sector partners to assist the SOS Children’s Village with the resources it needs.

Each Christmas, members of the JN Money team donate care packages which include a variety of items including food, school supplies and cash to home to lessen some of its financial constraints.

SOS Children’s Village Jamaica is a private, non-governmental social development organisation.

It has been in operation for more than 50 years and houses approximately 50 children, with the youngest being three years old, at its Stony Hill location.

The care facility provides a loving home for children who are in need of care and protection from losing or are at the risk of losing, parental care.
