Reggae Month, the annual celebration of the Jamaican reggae culture, has been officially launched.
Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports, Olivia Grange announced that Reggae Month 2023 will have live events across the country for the entire month of February.
She was speaking at the official launch of Reggae Month 2023 which was kicked off with a church service on Sunday (January 29) at Fellowship Tabernacle in Kingston.
“It will be one month of entertainment, constantly, every day,” Grange said.
The ministry has declared that this year’s Reggae Month celebrations will boast several existing and new educational and entertaining events.
Some of the activities that will take place over the course of the month include tributes to several reggae icons.
“We will be paying tributes to some of the greats who have passed on, and we will have the Reggae Golden Awards. We will also be awarding a number of our artistes who have contributed to Brand Jamaica and made the music what it is.”
One of the most anticipated events is, the ‘One in a Million You’ show which will see veteran reggae artiste Sanchez live on stage performing some of his biggest hits.
“It is our hope that Reggae may continue to unite our people, heal old wounds and reignite our people for greatness. God bless our music, God bless our creatives, God bless Jamaica land we love,” Grange said.
The month of February was officially declared Reggae Month by the Jamaican Government in January 2008 and is spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports.
