The School of Drama at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts will present the first of its two productions for this semester in March 2023.
The play, titled JamRats, is the brainchild of the StoryDram class of 2022 and directed by Janet Muirhead-Stewart and Patrice Briggs is the school’s Children’s Theatre Workshop production for this year.
Throughout the Children’s Theatre Workshop course, students are exposed to strategies for creating entertaining and educational theatre for children and youth, and this culminates in a production for the said target audiences.
The JamRats production borrows the characters and themes from the well-known children’s story, The Pied Piper of Hamlin, to offer a playful, contemporary reinterpretation and retelling.
This time, it is a tale of two neighbouring cities, one of which becomes taken over by a community of rats, when its leader is seduced by greed.

Given its plot, there are critical lessons about personal responsibility and environmental safety that are bound to appeal to young audiences.
The School of Drama promises that JamRats is entertainment for the young, the young at heart, and the entire family.
