Aaron Jarvis of Cayman Islands plays a stroke on the No. 8 hole during round 1 for the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, Thursday, April 7, 2022.

For the first time in the history of the Masters, a player from the Cayman Islands will be part of the championship.

Aaron Jarvis will begin this Thursday (April 7) to write his own story.

The winner of the LAAC in Casa de Campo is one of five amateurs in the field of the tournament this week at Georgia’s Augusta National Golf Club and will attempt to finish as the low amateur in the first Major of 2022.

However, Jarvis puts this possibility on the back burner and takes some pressure off before the start.

“The main objective is to enjoy the experience and learn, it is very difficult to put into words what I have been living these days here in Augusta, it is a dream come true”, said the player from the Cayman Islands.

Aaron Jarvis of Cayman Islands, winner of the 2021 Latin America Amateur Championship, speaks to the media at a press conference in the Interview Room during practice round 1 for the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, Monday, April 4, 2022.

Jarvis will kick off the first round of the Masters at 9:17 am, sharing a threesome with the 2007 winner Zach Johnson from the United States, and Si Woo Kim from Korea.

“Thinking in a goal I want to achieve this week, it would be an honour to be the low amateur and the first LAAC winner to achieve it at the same time,” said Jarvis, after his last practice round with Adam Scott from Australia, winner of the 2013 Masters after that memorable playoff with Angel Cabrera.

This Wednesday, the traditional tournament was held on the impressive Par 3 course of Augusta National Golf Club.

Jarvis was barely able to complete the first five holes of the course as another storm forced the play to be suspended.

The other two Latin American players who will be part of the 86th Masters are Joaquín Niemann from Chile (3rd appearance, missed cut in 2018 -Am- and finished 40th in 2021) and Abraham Ancer from Mexico (T13 in 2020, played in the final group with Dustin Johnson and was T26 in 2021).

Without a doubt, the main attraction is once again Tiger Woods, who returns to competitive golf this week after 14 months, after the accident he had in California in February 2021.

The former number 1 golfer in the world assured on Tuesday at a press conference that he feels he has a shot to get his sixth Green Jacket this week at Augusta National Golf Club.
