Jamaican athlete Ackera Nugent is among four athletes who have recently had their world records ratified by the World Athletics.

Just two years ago, Nugent ran an impressive 7.92 seconds at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, achieving her world U20 indoor 60m hurdles record.

The previous world record for the event was 8.00 seconds, set by Klaudia Siciarz. However, Siciarz’s time does not meet the criteria to be considered a world record.

There were other faster times, but they do not qualify because the athletes did not meet the criteria. As such, Nugent’s 7.92 seconds becomes the official world record for the U20 indoor 60m hurdles.

Other athletes who got their records ratified are Ethiopian 10km runner Yalemzerf Yehualaw, American sprinter Erriyon Knighton and Stephen Mokoka, South African long distance runner.

Yehualaw set a world record of 29.14 seconds for the 10km in Castellon on 27 February, a time that is now officially in the record books.

Knighton had run a time of 19.49 seconds previously, but the record time was not ratified because specific anti-doping testing requirements were not met.

The American then ran 19.69 seconds at the U20 200m record at the US Championships this year, a time that meets all criteria to become the new record.

For Mokoka, he ran 2:40:13 at the Nedbank Runified 50km in Gqeberha, a time that is now in the record books, because other faster times failed to be ratified.
