British police have charged comedian and actor Russell Brand with multiple sexual assault offences following an 18-month investigation.
In a statement on Friday, April 4 the Metropolitan Police confirmed that Brand, 50, faces five charges, including one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. The charges are based on allegations made by four women, with the incidents alleged to have taken place between 1999 and 2005.
Detectives launched their investigation in September 2023 after receiving reports from alleged victims. Brand will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Friday, May 2.
Brand has previously denied all allegations against him.
Authorities have not disclosed whether additional charges may be brought as the investigation continues.
