The American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) joined forces with the NCB Foundation to amplify donations to support Hurricane Beryl relief efforts through a matched fund.
The AFJ has partnered with Food for the Poor Jamaica to execute priority projects across the South Coast. A portion of funds raised on the AFJ platform have been designated to the BREDS Treasure Beach Foundation, which is addressing the rehabilitation of homes and the restoration of the livelihoods of farmers, fishermen, and small businesses in the Greater Treasure Beach area.
This contribution comes at a time when affected communities continue to face immense challenges following the recent passage of Hurricane Beryl.
The donation, which reflects AFJ’s ongoing commitment to provide immediate and long-term support to disaster-affected areas, will help hundreds of families regain stability. The fund will be utilized to deliver well-needed support, including roofing and housing repair materials, back to school vouchers, as well as donations of seeds and fertilizer to restore farming communities.
Wendy Hart, president of the American Friends of Jamaica, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to assist those in need. “The AFJ is proud to partner with the NCB Foundation and Food for the Poor Jamaica to bring relief to Jamaica’s South Coast. Our mission is to make a lasting difference in the lives of those affected, and this donation is a testament to the power of collaboration in times of crisis. We believe that by working together, we can rebuild stronger and provide hope to the people of Jamaica.”
The relief efforts have been focused on some of the most affected areas, where residents have faced extensive damage to property and essential infrastructure. With the delivery of resources funded by this donation, the goal is to restore livelihoods and enhance the resilience of these communities to future disasters.
Food for the Poor Jamaica, which has been actively involved in distributing relief to affected households, will spearhead the allocation of supplies. The NCB Foundation, known for its community outreach and development projects, has played a key role in increasing this contribution.
The AFJ’s contribution follows its long-standing tradition of supporting Jamaica in times of need. Since its establishment, the organization has been a major partner in providing financial and logistical aid for education, healthcare, and economic development across the island.
The handover ceremony will take place on September 6, 2024, at the offices of Food for the Poor Jamaica, where representatives from the AFJ, BREDS Foundation, and NCB Foundation will join local leaders and community members to commemorate this impactful donation.
The event will symbolize hope and the collective effort to rebuild stronger, more resilient communities.
