Air Canada has announced that it has revised its checked baggage policy for travel between Kingston, Jamaica and Canada for tickets issued on or after January 17, 2023. The new policy applies to Basic, Standard, Flex, and Comfort fares and is per direction.

Under the new policy, the fee for the first bag remains unchanged at 30 CAD/USD. However, the fee for the second bag has been increased to 200 CAD/USD, and each additional bag will cost 500 CAD/USD, almost double the cost in other countries.

A spokesperson from Air Canada speaking with nowtoronto.com explained: “The reason is that we operate this route with smaller, narrow-body aircraft[s] that have less belly hold space, but customers historically bring more baggage than average. This sometimes resulted in bags being left behind and needing to be delivered later, which among other things was inconvenient for customers.”

The airline added that the additional bag fee promotes a “fairer distribution” of available baggage capacity and encourages customers to “pack more conservatively”, as opposed to limiting the number of bags per person.

Our Today understands that there have been ongoing baggage issues for customers on the Kingston to Toronto route with obtaining their bags on time and this change is expected to alleviate that issue.
