Classes and other activities at the Meadowbrook High School in St Andrew were brought to a halt on Monday, November 25, after an alleged bomb threat was sent to the school.
A parent who asked not to be identified told Our Today that following the bomb threat students and faculty were asked to vacate the premises.
However, Meadowbrook High School Principal Kevin Facey neither confirmed nor denied the allegation when interviewed.
“We received communication that indicated we may have had an emergency situation brewing and we have been doing our checks on it so far. So we decided out of an abundance of caution to take certain actions such as sending the staff and students home until the matter was confirmed and settled,” he informed Our Today.
When pressed about what exactly was communicated to the school about the emergency situation, Facey said that he could not share the details until the authorities have verified the communication to be true or a hoax. He added that disclosing the nature of the matter before confirmation “would be premature”.
A letter to parents signed by Facey outlined that the school does “not have all the details” about the “emerging situation” but “will need outside assistance to address” the matter.
“So we will dismiss school at 10:45 am today,” the letter continued.
It added: “We will need the campus to be clear and will need you to collect your child/ward as soon as possible. It is most likely that your child will have to wait just outside the school gate.”
Responding to Our Today, Facey said he would provide an update once checks are completed.
This is the second incidence in just over a year that classes have been disrupted by an emergency at Meadowbrook High School. In 2023, on November 14, classes came to an abrupt end after a bomb scare.
