Almost 20 students were taken to hospital on Tuesday after the vehicle transporting them overturned along Gordon Town Road in St Andrew.

The incident occurred around 3:00 pm.

The vehicle, a white Toyota Hiace, was carrying students from the Louise Bennett Primary School in Gordon Town when it reportedly developed mechanical issues while travelling through the Dublin Castle area, causing it to overturn.

The children, between three and 10 years old, along with the driver, were rushed to hospital.

It’s understood that their injuries were not considered life-threatening. All the children were treated and released by Tuesday night.

However, the driver and his son sustained more serious injuries. Both are believed to have suffered burns from fluid leaking from the vehicle’s radiator and remain hospitalised as of Wednesday morning.

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has noted with concern the recent public comments made by the Assistant Commissioner of INDECOM, Hamish Campbell, suggesting that it is a “perfectly legitimate approach” for the Commissioner of Police and senior leadership of the JCF to speak publicly on fatal shootings under investigation in order to reassure communities.

This statement comes from the fatal killing of 22-year-old Jamar Farquharson in Cherry Tree Lane, Clarendon, on September 15, despite footage from his residence showing him surrendering to police officers.
