It’s a case of prolonged anguish and anxiety for former Head of Marketing for Sagicor Group Jamaica Alysia Moulton White as charges levelled against her by the insurance giant in the St. Andrew Parish Court, sees the case postponed yet again.

A sitting was scheduled for May 5th to May 7th 2026, before Judge Maxine Ellis, however Prosecutor Ann Marie Furtado Richards informed the court that a witness, understood to be an employee of Sagicor Bank had to leave the island unexpectedly.

Sagicor’s attorneys felt it would not be prudent to proceed with another witness at this stage based on the planned sequence and structure of the prosecution’s case.

The hearing will now resume on June 1st, 2026.

This case has had more starts and stops than traffic on Half-Way Tree Road at 5.30pm. Originally scheduled to get underway in April 2025, it didn’t commence until July 2025. Preparations for trial became protracted. Alysia Moulton White, her sister Trecia Moulton, Tishan Samuels and Malika McLeod were charged in 2022 in connection with defrauding Sagicor Bank. They face fraud charges, a number of counts of larceny and conspiracy to defraud. The Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation unit (CTOC) said it found that J$65 million was milked from six Sagicor customers’ U.S. dollar accounts.

Alysia Moulton White specifically is charged with conspiracy to defraud, unlawfully making data available on a device for the commission of an offence, engaging in a transaction that involves a criminal offence and reciting stolen property.

The prosecution said Alysia Moulton White engaged in “wilful blindness” allowing her account to be used in illicit activity.

During case management proceedings, the Head of Security for Sagicor couldn’t produce video footage that captured images of Alysia Moulton White and the prosecution asked for more time to come up with incriminating evidence.

The presiding judge at that time Lori-Ann Cole-Montegue  (who has now been replaced by Judge Maxine Ellis granted the prosecution time to produce the tapes, and the case has dragged on, no nearer to a resolution.

Our Today has come to understand that trials of this nature do take some time. Alysia Moulton White is being represented by esteemed attorney Deborah Martin, who said, “This case is about around  J$600,000 finding its way into her account, which she knew nothing about. Someone placed funds into her account. We will be requesting relevant records and information. We are in the digital age, and that too is a factor here.”

Alysia Moulton White will find it difficult to secure a similar executive position to the one she had at Sagicor, and her corporate career will be placed on hiatus until this case is concluded. She has however, proved enterprising, forming her own business.
