Amazon Games and Embracer Group revealed their partnership to develop and publish a new massively multiplayer online (MMO) game based on The Lord of the Rings set in the iconic world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

The game will take players on an immersive adventure in an open-world, persistent environment, encompassing the beloved stories of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The project is still in its early stages, with development spearheaded by Amazon Games Orange County studio, known for their popular open-world massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, New World.

The game is expected to be available on PC and consoles worldwide, with more details, including the release date, to be shared in the future.

Christoph Hartmann, vice president of Amazon Games, expressed their commitment to providing players with high-quality gaming experiences, whether through original IPs or cherished franchises like The Lord of the Rings.

The collaboration between Amazon Games and Embracer Group is an expansion of their existing relationship, which began with the Tomb Raider deal last year. Their internally developed MMO, New World, and action RPG Lost Ark from Smilegate RPG have both achieved tremendous success, ranking high on Steam and Twitch and fostering vibrant player communities.

Amazon Games has also secured publishing agreements with prominent developers such as NCSOFT, Bandai Namco Online, Crystal Dynamics, Glowmade, and Disruptive Games for various upcoming titles.
