Technology company Amber Group was awarded the 2021 Caribbean Council’s Excellence in International Business Award.
The Caribbean Council is a long-established trade and investment membership organisation, based in the United Kingdom, that supports responsible and sustainable private sector-led investment and development in the Caribbean, Cuba, and Central America. It recognises companies that have created sustainable solutions for the region’s needs, and celebrates vision and success in the Caribbean private sector. The Amber Group is the second Jamaican company to cop the award, which will be officially presented later this month.
Chris Bennett, managing director of the Caribbean Council: “The judges were impressed with Amber Group’s rapid growth, regional expansion, demonstrated innovation and its commitment to sustainable long-term business thinking, and in particular training new generations of computer coders in Jamaica.”

Last year, the technology conglomerate launched the Amber HEART Coding Academy and the Coding in Schools Programme, in conjunction with the Government of Jamaica to prepare students for opportunities in software development and programming.
The Amber Group’s team of multi-stacked software developers were also behind the recently launched, Ministry of Transport and Mining’s Travel Pal Application. This application will help to combat crimes committed against the commuting public, by allowing passengers to share their location, and details of their taxi drivers with a loved one.
“We are truly grateful for being acknowledged for our work as we continue to live our mission, in creating products and services for the good of society.”
