Anchovy Primary School resonated with the echoes of history as American civil rights activist Ruby Bridges on Friday, May 10, graced the campus to participate in their Read Across Jamaica Day program on Children’s Day.

Known for her pivotal role in desegregating schools in the United States, Bridges captivated students with her powerful storytelling and wisdom, leaving an indelible mark on the young minds of Anchovy.

Anchovy Primary School, which boasts its connection to Jamaican Olympian Yohan Blake, was brimming with excitement while Bridges was engaging students through reading from her book to impart invaluable lessons of resilience, equality, and the importance of education.

Supporting Bridges and the students were members of Delta Sigma Theta (DST) Sorority, Incorporated, who traveled from across Jamaica and the United States to contribute to the event’s success.

Their dedication to community service was evident, as they not only participated in the activities but also generously provided Hasbro toy donations for every class in the school.

The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of sorority member Kim Hill and her husband Reggie Hill, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
