The Board of Directors of the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) has announced the establishment of a $1 million matching fund to support critical relief and recovery efforts in Jamaica following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.

This fund, created and underwritten by AFJ’s Board of Directors, will match dollar-for-dollar all donations made through the organisation’s official donation channels. Donors who contribute via corporate matching gift programs are especially encouraged to participate, as these contributions will also be eligible for the match.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by Hurricane Melissa,” said Wendy Hart, President of the AFJ Board. “We stand ready to deploy resources to help Jamaica during this time of crisis, ensuring aid reaches those who need it most.”

For over four decades, the American Friends of Jamaica has stood side by side with the Jamaican people, supporting education, healthcare, economic development, and disaster response initiatives. This moment is no different. AFJ’s long history of trusted partnerships ensures that every dollar raised is deployed responsibly and effectively to communities in need.

Donations can be made directly through the AFJ’s Disaster Relief Fund.
