America’s monthly retail and food services sales rose by 3.8% in January 2022

Retail and food services sales in the United States rose 3.8 per cent in January to US$649.8 billion, up from the previous month of December.

Year-over-year the number is up 13.0 per cent over January 2021. Total sales increased 16.1 per cent year-over-year from November 2021 to January 2022.

The per cent change from November to December 2021 was revised downward from 1.9 per cent to 2.5 per cent.

Retail trade sales increased by 4.4 per cent from December 2021 to December 2022, and by 11.4 per cent from the previous year.

Gas stations sales increased by 33.4 per cent year-over-year in January 2021, while food services and drinking establishments increased by 27.0 per cent year-over-year.
