Andrew Bellamy, Councillor for the Mona Division in St Andrew, is the second high-ranking figure to issue a public apology to Jamaicans for appearing to mock no-movement day in now-viral social media videos.
Bellamy, in a statement on Twitter on Wednesday (September 15), said “the anger and disappointment based on the feedback received is regretted”.
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor has tendered his resignation from the Board of the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) as well as chairmanship of all committees within the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).
Checks by Our Today show Bellamy no longer appears among the list of directors on SERHA’s website, which has since been updated to reflect the councillor’s immediate resignation.
Moments earlier, as backlash continued to mount, Cabinet minister Floyd Green tendered his resignation from the Agriculture and Fisheries portfolio, a year after he took the oath of office at King’s House.
