It was not the start that new Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou would have wanted in his return to the English Premier League (EPL) after being sacked by Spurs earlier this summer.
This Arsenal team looks formidable and will be a contender this season. The Australian Postecoglou found that out today (September 13) at the Emirates Stadium.
With Nuno Espírito Santo now gone after falling out with the owner of the club, Ange Postecoglou will be expected to deliver a top 6 spot-anything less will be considered a failure.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta came up with the right plan and the right formation today. His team were ruthless and Nottingham simply couldn’t deal with the North London side’s pace. Noni Madueke ran Nottingham Forest’s back line ragged.
Zubimendi’s superb volley opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 32nd minute. There was a scare in the first half of the game when Martin Odegaard fell heavily on his shoulder and went to ground in agony. He had only recently returned to the squad following injury.
In the opening minute of the second half, Arsenal doubled its lead with new signing Eze’s pass setting up Gyokeres’ goal. The former Crystal Palace winger has settled well at Arsenal so far and gives them attacking options.
The Spaniard Zubimendi scored again in the 79th minute, this time heading a cross from Tossard, seeing to it that the Gunners bagged all three points and completed Nottingham Forest’s misery.
It has to be said that Noni Madueke was excellent for Arsenal today. This was an Arsenal without Saka, no Saliba, no Rice and still made it look easy.
