Ann-Marie Vaz to provide grants to vendors impacted by Musgrave Market blaze

Member of Parliament for East Portland, Ann-Marie Vaz announced on Thursday (June 1) she will be donating cheques valued at J$100,000 to each of the 200 vendors affected by the fire at the Musgrave Market in Port Antonio.

The MP said that the cheques will be distributed in the coming week through her Action Ann Foundation.

In a video post on her social media page, the MP said that: “I would like to announce that each of the 200 vendors will be given a cheque of [$100,000] next week to begin to rebuild there lives.

Vaz has also pledged to donate the first-year increase of her parliamentary salary to assist vendors impacted by the Musgrave Market blaze.

The fire is said to have started in the Musgrave Market around 8:00 am last Sunday and destroyed stalls before spreading to neighbouring business establishments such as Kamal’s supermarket and Portland Jewelers.
