The Grace Atlanta Caribbean Jerk Festival, presented by Publix, concluded another successful event last Sunday (September 3) at the Southeast Athletic Complex in Lithonia, Georgia.
Over 6,000 enthusiasts, representing Georgia and nearby states, gathered to revel in the richness of Caribbean heritage.
Setting the event’s energetic vibe early on was the Grace Welcome drink, infused with Tropical Rhythms. For those 21 and over, a swig of Guinness, the festival’s official beer, added a bold twist to the savory Caribbean dishes on offer.
Under the hosting of chef Irie, the audience witnessed a sizzling chef’s clash. Chefs Scotley Innis and Jaaion Barnes competed with his avant-garde take on jerk cuisine winning the judges and the crowd.
Media personality Jody-Ann Gray bested OIiver Mair, Jamaican Consul General for the Southern United States, to take home bragging rights for a celebrity cooking showdown. Young attendees were not left out, as the kids zone offered myriad activities from face painting to bounce houses. Vendors were on-site with delightful kid-friendly treats, making sure even the youngest felt the spirit of the Caribbean.
Among the foodie delights, the Guinness-infused Caribbean-styled ice cream stood out, marrying a beloved drink with creamy goodness.
Energy levels never dipped, thanks to non-stop entertainment on the main stage. From the infectious comedy of Chris “Johnny’ Daley to mesmerizing performances by talents like Destra and Gyptian, the day was a sensory delight. DJs like Juggla and Richie D kept feet tapping, echoing the Caribbean’s rhythmic heartbeat.
Co-founder Cheriel Simmonds expressed profound gratitude for the collective effort that made the festival shine. Applauding partners, vendors, performers, and attendees, Simmonds emphasised the festival’s role in bringing the Caribbean’s zest to Atlanta.
