Former NBA star Antonio Brown

Antonio Brown made his first appearance in a Florida courtroom on Wednesday morning since being arrested on an attempted murder charge.

The former NFL star was allowed to go free before his trial after the judge set bail at $25,000 and placed him under the least restrictive form of house arrest, requiring him to wear an ankle monitor.

Dressed in a red prison jumpsuit, Brown was ordered to stay away from the alleged victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, and to surrender his passport. The charge stems from a fight at an Adin Ross boxing event in May, when Zul claimed the 37-year-old tried to shoot him.

After an arrest warrant was issued in June, Brown had been out of the country, only returning last week after being extradited from the United Arab Emirates. He spent a few days in New Jersey before police escorted him back to Florida on Tuesday.

His attorney argued Brown was travelling for business, not trying to evade the law, and said he acted in self-defence. Brown’s next hearing is scheduled for later this month.
