The Court of Appeal will on Monday, June 10, hear arguments on whether a retrial should be ordered in the case of dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel and his co-accused.

A notice of hearing was issued by Justice McDonald-Bishop today, April 12.

This follows a ruling by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (JCPC) in March that the convictions against Kartel and his three co-accused should be quashed, due to juror misconduct, and resent the case to the Court of Appeal to decide on a retrial.

Kartel, whose given name is Adidja Palmer, and his three co-accused: Shawn Campbell, more popularly known as Shawn Storm; Kahira Jones; and Andre St John, were convicted in 2014 for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

However, the JCPC overturned the convictions due to a juror’s attempt to bribe other members of the jury in the high-profile 2014 murder trial.
