Appleton Estate and digital media house Our Today are collaborating on showcasing Jamaican excellence with the ‘Appleton Circle’, a series of curated dinners for specially invited guests.
Jamaican business leaders came out last night (July 23) to hear Michael Lee-Chin, chairman of NCB Financial Group, talk about the importance of setting and attaining standards. He also focused on the principal/agent problem that bedevils organisations.
“What are the three telling characteristics of the best leaders of the world? I asked this question of a friend of mine and I thought what if someone asked that of me?” he began.
“I came up with the best leaders in the world are strategic in their thinking. Secondly, they must be able to execute that strategy and thirdly those leaders must be passionate advocates
So we don’t forget it, what is the first letter of strategy? -S. What is the first letter of execute? -E. And what is the first letter of advocacy? -A. So you take a SEA approach to leadership. The best leaders in the world have a SEA plan,” said Lee-Chin.
