The US Embassy in Kingston says it is welcoming applications from Jamaican nationals for the 2026-2027 Fulbright foreign student programme.

Fulbright, a highly competitive scholarship opportunity, is open to Jamaican citizens seeking to pursue graduate-level studies (Master’s or PhD) in the United States, in a wide range of disciplines. Selected applicants will not only engage in academic study but will also develop cross-cultural competencies and leadership skills to further Jamaica’s national development goals upon their return.

Highly motivated individuals with an excellent academic background and a deep commitment to contributing to Jamaica’s development are invited to apply. Candidates must be Jamaican citizens residing in Jamaica and must have obtained a first or upper second-class honours degree from a recognised local tertiary institution. Applicants should demonstrate proven academic excellence, a clear vision for national development related to their field of study, leadership potential in their chosen field, and a commitment to return to Jamaica to serve in their respective field upon completing their studies.

The Fulbright programme welcomes applications across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including but not limited to, humanities, social sciences, STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and agriculture.

Furthermore, the embassy advised that degrees in law, medicine, nursing, dentistry and MBAs are not eligible for Fulbright programme funding.

Mike Lavallee, public affairs attaché at the embassy, stated, “This opportunity serves as a platform for national service, transformative leadership, and sound collaboration between Jamaica and the United States. We invite eligible persons to apply and become part of a distinguished global network of Fulbright alumni, dedicated to making meaningful impact at home and abroad.”

Applications must be submitted online only by 11:59 pm on May 30.
