As the cost of education continues to place increasing pressure on Jamaican families, Scotia Insurance is once again investing in students’ futures through the Scotia Insurance Headstart Scholarship, providing eligible policyholders with financial support of up to J$150,000 to help fund their dependents’ secondary or tertiary education.

Formerly offered under the Education Wealth Plan Scholarship, the programme has been reintroduced this year as the Scotia Insurance Headstart Scholarship, reflecting its focus on helping students begin the next stage of their educational journey while recognising customers who have taken steps to protect their families through ScotiaELEVATE and ScotiaMINT life insurance policies.

The scholarship is open to eligible ScotiaELEVATE and ScotiaMINT policyholders and forms part of Scotia Insurance’s ongoing commitment to supporting education while encouraging long-term financial planning. Applications opened on July 13 and are set to close on August 10, 2026, with successful recipients to be announced on August 17, 2026.

Eligible applicants can download the application form from the Scotiabank Jamaica website and submit their completed application to any Scotia Insurance office before the closing date. Up to 28 applicants (one from each Scotia Insurance office) will be awarded based on the eligibility and selection criteria set out in the application guidelines.

Debra Lopez-Spence, President, Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company, said the scholarship demonstrates Scotia Insurance’s belief that financial protection should create opportunities for families, not only provide peace of mind. “Education has the power to transform lives, but for many families, financing that journey can be challenging. Through the Scotia Insurance Headstart Scholarship, we are pleased to support our customers as they invest in their children’s future while highlighting the long-term value of planning ahead. This initiative reflects our commitment to helping Jamaican families achieve their goals today and for generations to come.”

The programme has grown into one of Scotia Insurance’s longstanding customer initiatives. Each scholarship represents an investment in a young Jamaican’s educational journey while reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting families through every stage of life.

The Scotia Insurance Headstart Scholarship is one of the ways the company continues to deliver meaningful value to its policyholders by supporting aspirations beyond financial protection and helping to create brighter futures through education.
