The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has declared that the month of April will be used to highlight the hardworking men, women and youth in the farming industry who continue to put food on the tables of many citizens.
Agricultural workers will be celebrated for the entire month which will be observed under the theme ‘GROW SMART, EAT SMART!’
Minister of Agriculture Pearnel Charles Jr, said that the ministry is excited to celebrate farmers islandwide and the significant contribution they have made to the improvement of the industry.
Farmers’ Month was launched at the JAS Farmers Market at the Hope Gardens complex last week Friday (March 31).

In his remarks, the minister noted that in 2022, agriculture workers increased their produce of domestic crop from more than 707,000 to more than 846,000 and continue to give positive results.
“We have challenges, but together we’re working through them, we’re breaking barriers and we are achieving more than we have ever achieved before. We’re moving in a direction towards a long-term vision as we seek to have Jamaica have the resilience and sustainability,” said Charles Jr.
To kick start the month, the ministry hosted a church service yesterday (April 2) at the Rocky Settlement New Testament Church of God in Rocky Point, St Catherine.
Charles Jr noted that several other activities and events will be hosted throughout the month to celebrate farmers.
