The Integrity Commission (IC) is reporting that 23 politicians are now being investigated for Illicit Enrichment and/or False Information, two more than the year before.

In its latest Annual Report for 2025/25, which was tabled in Parliament yesterday detailed that 14 Members of Parliament are being investigated for Illicit Enrichment and/or False Information, one more than the 13 reported in the 2024/25 Annual Report, while one Senator is being investigated as was the case in the 2024/25 Annual Report.

As for Parish Councillors, eight of them are now under investigation for Illicit Enrichment and/or False Information, one more than the year before. As for Permanent Secretary, the count remains at one this year, the same as in the 2024/2025 period, while there has been an increase of one in terms of the number of Heads of Public Sector entities.

70 government officials being investigated

The tally now stands at eight compared to seven a year ago. In total 70 government officials are being investigated for Illicit Enrichment and/or False Information, up from 65 the year before.

The IC continues with initiatives to prioritise the examination of Statutory Declarations submitted by all Parliamentarians for the declaration periods ended December 31, 2024, September 3, 2025 and September 18, 2025.

Five hundred and eighty-five of the 761 statutory declarations, which were received with respect to the Parliamentary group, have been examined. During the reporting period, the Commission examined 8,529 Statutory Declarations and certified 1,731 Statutory Declarations submitted by parliamentarians and other public officials across varied declaration periods.

The 8,529 examinations, which were completed in the current period, combined with the examinations of the prior period, resulted in the IC completing 20,292 examinations within the last two reporting periods.

Although the number of statutory declarations examined increased in the last two reporting periods, the IC says it will continue to advance further initiatives to improve the examination processes.
